WE NEED YOU TO REPORT BUGS!
1. ZONE FREE SERVER, ALLEGIANCE ZONE SERVER OR BOTH?
If you enabled your subscription on the 4th of February or after, you were tokenized to only access the Zone Free servers. If you were tokenized before the 4th, you were tokenized to access both the Allegiance Zone servers and the Zone Free servers. Why? This is because we want users to help us stress the Zone Free server code. Thanks.
2. WHY IS MY SUBSCRIPTION ONLY VALID FOR A WEEK?
Many of you may have realized that your subscription is only valid for a week. No worry! Just re-subscribe when your account expires. We're testing the Subscription infrastructure and need your support.
3. BUG REPORTING
It's very important. Each time you have a problem, use machine.exe to get info on your system (you should do it EACH TIME you submit a bug report or series of bugs). In general, we need to know things like: This piece of art from this faction looks strange from a certain position.
When I fly this way and press this key and to this thing it crashes my client.
Any time you get a crash, please run themachine.exe, then send us all of the information attached with the log file from running machine.exe with the bug report. Thanks!
4. REALTEK NETWORK ADAPTERS HAVE PROBLEMS
We have confirmed that there is a problem with many, possibly all, Realtek network adapters where they corrupt data. It doesn't happen very often, but unfortunately when it does, we have no choice but to disconnect you. It may be limited to older drivers, so we urge everyone with a Realtek network adapter to install the latest drivers, which can be found right here. Thanks.
5. KERNEL CRASH
Any time you see a KERNEL crash, it's probably a system or driver problem. Here are some things to try: - DISABLE hardware sound acceleration.
- Download the most up-to-date sound, video & input drivers (this is super important).
- Turn sound quality to LOW.
- Verify that you do have DirectX7 installed. Check our Downloads page for a link to DirectX7 if needed.
6. DPLAY PROTOCOL STILL NOT PLAYING NICELY WITH ALL NATS.
We're cranking on it as quickly as possible.
7. WHEN DO WE GET STAND-ALONE SERVERS TO TRY?
You probably won't. We want the stressing on our internal servers so we can give you the best game experience possible by ship.
8. MISSING WS2_32.DLL
If you get a message stating that you are missing WS2_32.DLL, you need to install Windows Sockets. Win95 users MUST install Winsock. If you have either the Beta 0 or Beta 1 CD, Winsock 2 is on the CD. If you do not have the CD, you can find Winsock 2 here.
9. SERVER CRASHING
There is a serious bug on the server that causes it to lag & crash over time. We're working on a patch right now that will hopefully resolve the problem, but we do not have a fix yet. These are the types of issues that inevitably result from open beta testing, so please be patient. This issue is of highest priority, and we will keep you posted on our progress.
10. LANGUAGE DLL ISSUE
If you receive a message stating that you have an issue with a Language DLL file, this means you have a corrupt download. You'll need to delete your current Allegiance Beta download and download the Allegiance Beta file again.
11. FREE ZONE BUTTON OR ALLEGIANCE ZONE BUTTON?
Don't select the FREE ZONE button. Only use the Allegiance Zone button for now.
12. CONNECTION PROBLEMS
We have a little more data about some of the networking problems people are experiencing. You should be able to run behind a firewall or a proxy if you have the correct ports opened up. For further information, please go to this Microsoft Research paper on the issues. You might NOT be able to run if you're running your client behind a network address translation package (NAT) like ICS. If you get it to work, please email instructions on how you did it to alhq@microsoft.com and specifically put Network Idea in the email subject head so it will be forwarded to the Microsoft Research Development team.
13. PATCH FOR CD VERSIONS (BETA 0 & BETA 1)
Patch 1829a is for BETA 0 and BETA 1 people only. These are beta testers who received their CD in the mail. If you downloaded the Open Beta, you should NEVER run 1829a patch or ANY patch for that matter. We will always auto-update you to the most current version. BETA 0 and BETA 1 people should ONLY run the patch if they have never logged in since build 1829.
14. JOYSTICK PROBLEMS
Some joysticks roll uncontrollably. To stop it, go to KEYBOARD CONFIG and un-map ROLL on the joystick.
15. TRAINING MISSIONS
The training missions will help get you get into the game quickly. We strongly recommend that you download and run them. You can get them from the Allegiance Downloads section.
16. USING A SECONDARY 3D CARD
If you're trying to use a secondary 3d card, you may need to select the card when you're actually in space and not when you're in the hangar.
17. WHAT HAPPENED TO MY STATS?
We killed them in the last update. Itsa Beta!
18. LAG! LAG! LAG! What's going on?
We're experiencing an evil lag bug that we are tracking down. Expect an update in the coming days to fix the problem.
19. DISRUPTIVE PLAYERS
If any players try to ruin your experience, try having them booted by your team leader. Once they are booted from the game and are thrown back to the lobby, the mission owner can enter #BAN followed by a space and the player's ID and they won't be able to re-enter the game.
