DATANET MAKES THE CORPORATE HIT LIST!
The following internal memo was just snagged in a data sift by some, er, friends of the DataNet:
To: Jonathan Markham
From: Mercedes Kelleher
Subject: DataNet - [Material Classified]
Jonathan:
I've recently finished reviewing the last security report update. I'm pleased your investigation is beginning to provide us with some useful information. Nevertheless - and I cannot stress this enough - we cannot rest until we discover the source of these leaks. DataNet is becoming rather a problem. The public has begun to believe their misinformation and even respect them for their guerrilla journalism. This must stop. We must make the undermining of their credibility one of our most important PR goals. If we can't put an end to them soon, we may find that we never can.
To that end, the Board has authorized me to give you additional computer access and military resources in your investigation. You now may expand your searches into the encrypted mails sent in the last two years. We have reason to believe that our leak may have used the internal GigaCorp mail system to forward some of the memos and other restricted information that DataNet published during that time. Proceed with haste. We've got to contain this now before our security is further compromised. You're also authorized to second personnel from computer R & D to assist you.
Let me make this clear: I want the leak found and DataNet shut down. Immediately. There's no telling what they'll publish next and both of our futures depend on insuring that certain things are never made public.
>>Blastoff: node: 67172.9182_182: I wonder what Ms. Kelleher will think when she sees this? I'm sure it'll make her sleep even less soundly than she already does. Heavy the head that wears the crown, they say. I guess that's as true of corporate CEOs as it was of medieval monarchs. Too bad for she can't just chop off our heads. That'd be much simpler than rifling through the private mail of her employees and probably a lot more effective.
>>DixieRebel: node: 981289.89127_2: How about the folks working the DataNet? Any word on how this might affect the DataNet update schedule?
>>Bad Karma [node restricted]: We're not going anywhere. DataNet is here to stay and there's nothing GigaCorp - or the Iron Coalition, or anyone else - can do about it. Kelleher and her pet bulldog Markham ain't gonna to shut me down. If we have the ability to intercept and publish an internal memo like this, do you really think they're even close to finding out how we do it? Sorry, Mercedes, but you're going to have to try harder. I know you're used to getting your way. This isn't one of those times.
