PIRATE RAID SMASHES HASTUR STATION
GigaCorp spokesman Miguel Sanchez announced today that rescue operations at Hastur Station have been launched, in the aftermath of a pirate raid that decimated the facility. According to GigaCorp sources, feared pirate Black Hand Lennox struck the Hastur Station free port to capture He3, food and air.
Casualties are estimated to be in the thousands, and hundreds are dead. Preliminary reports indicate that Lennox's forces deliberately targeted housing domes and other non-combatant targets to force surrender.
Ironically, Hastur Station co-founder Orion Sholes recently declared the port off-limits to GigaCorp personnel, in light of the destruction of the independent freighter Hermes. (Sholes is co-founder of the trading company that owns the Hermes.)
Mr. Sholes' statements are understandable, Sanchez said. But we can't stand by and let innocent civilians - our customers - suffer and die in the wake of this atrocity. Perhaps this will help Sholes and his confederates realize that GigaCorp had nothing to do with the destruction of the Hermes.
Sholes could not be reached for comment.
>>Nightengale: node 703_92.991.214: Of course he couldn't be reached. He's probably out hunted for Lennox. Those two have been scrapping ever since Belters became a commonly used term.
>>NightHunter_J: node 009_11.3.441.32: It's interesting that GigaCorp was quick to jump on the we didn't do it bandwagon. It's not their style to act as humanitarians.
>>Longbow_3: node 622.41.5.901: I bet they actually sponsored the attack, to make sure that Belter forces - particularly Sholes and his crew - don't start interfering in the fight at Aladdin. Kelleher has her hands full with the Iron Coalition.
>>StarMerc_8: node 818_99924.5.2.2221: Wouldn't surprise me. It's just the kind of sneaky ploy that GigaCorp Psych-ops teams excel at.
