HIGH RANKING COALITION MEMBER RETIRES
From Luna today, Colonel Geoffrey Hildesheim confirmed that he would indeed be retiring, after thirty years of service to the Iron Coalition. Hildesheim is a member of Brigadier General Derek Fisk's staff and reportedly a longtime friend of the general. The move came as something of a surprise to many, but Hildesheim's statement made it clear that the colonel had “been considering this move for several months.”

The statement provided few details. Hildesheim tendered his resignation yesterday and the supreme commander of Coalition forces accepted it. Hildesheim will remain a member of Fisk's staff until a suitable replacement can be found. Many believe that Fisk will appoint his aide, Major Robert Terrance, to the position, perhaps even promoting him as well. Others do not believe this likely, favoring the master strategist Lieutenant Colonel Cheung San-Chih.

Fisk has always proven unpredictable in choosing his staff members, however. Fisk seems to have a knack for finding the right person for the job, whether or not they are well known to outsiders or not. Major Terrance - Fisk's primary aide-de-camp - was an unknown quantity before Fisk recruited him after the destruction of Earth. It is quite possible that he may choose yet another unknown to fill Hildesheim's place.

The retirement of such a high ranking Coalition member renews interest in whether Fisk himself will call it quits after so many years as a soldier. Fisk has always refrained from answering such questions in the past and that's unlikely to change anytime soon.

>>Sherlock_8: node 98119/29.201_2: Fisk will outlive them all. He's tough as nails and in great shape for a man his age. I don't know why the mainstream media fixates on this question. It's not important. What they should be looking at is the fact that there's a power vacuum in Fisk's inner circle. With Hildesheim gone, someone's got to step in to take his place. Who will it be?

>>NightWolf: node 1154.3.6_29: Terrance, maybe? Though I suspect Fisk wants him to stay where he is. He's more useful as head of intelligence.

>>SunTzu_9014: node 8913.44.71.2: Cheung is another possibility. Of course, he's not popular with a lot of his peers and many suspect his motives. On the other hand, he's a brilliant strategist and the kind of guy Fisk could use at the top.

>>NightWolf: node 1154.3.6_29: If Terrance doesn't get the slot, my money is on someone we never head of. Fisk's a crafty old guy. The Coalition could use some new blood anyway.
