Microsoft Bridge Club Tournament Information

There are two types of Bridge Club tournaments on the Zone: daily tournaments and registered tournaments. For daily tournaments, no signup is required. Just grab your partner, enter the tournament game room ten minutes before the tournament begins, and get ready to play!

For registered tournaments, you and your partner will need to signup. See the following instructions for tournament signup:

Tournament Signup

Before signing up to play in a Microsoft Bridge Club tournament, you must be a member of the Bridge Club. There is a tournament scheduled for each day of the week. You may sign up for any available tournament up to the time the tournament begins.

How to sign up for a tournament:
  1. Click Tournaments on the Bridge Club Table of Contents located on the left.
  2. On the Tournament page, click the daily tournament you want to sign up for.
  3. Enter your partner's name and click Register.
  4. You are now signed up to play.
Check In Before the Tournament

Check-in begins one hour before tournament start time.

How to Check In:
  1. Click Tournaments on the Bridge Club Table of Contents located on the left. The Bridge Club tournament page will appear.
  2. Click the name of the tournament you have registered for. This page will show the person you are registered to play with and whether your partner has checked in yet.
  3. Click Check In, enter your password, and click Check In again. You will return to the Tournament Details page, where you will receive a notice confirming your check-in and displaying details of your partner's status.
Wrong Partner?

If someone has signed you up as a partner and you want to dissolve that partnership, click on Click Here at the bottom of the Tournament Details page, where this process is described. Enter your password and click Delete Partnership and click Delete to remove your partnership from the tournament. You are now no longer registered for the tournament and free to form a new partnership before the tournament begins.

You can dissolve your partnership up to the time the tournament begins.

Seating

Once check-in has ended, the director will assign seating for all pairs. This page will list all the seat assignments. Once everyone has been seated, the director will start the first round.

Slow Play

Sufficient time is allocated for you and your partner to finish your boards. If the round is called before you finish the last board, that board will be recorded as not played by your table. Deliberately playing slow to prevent a board from scoring is a breach of our Conduct & Ethics and may be subject to penalties.

Claiming

Claims are encouraged, as they speed up play and help ensure both boards in a round are played. Please be sure to state a line of play when you claim. In a trump contract, be sure to extract all the trumps before you claim -- if you don't, it will be assumed you forgot they were out.

Moving

At the end of each round, the director will instruct you how to move -- usually the N/S pair will stay put and the E/W pair will move to the next higher-numbered table (or to Table 1 if they are at the highest-numbered table). To ensure there are not two pair teams sitting out due to dropouts, the director may instruct individual pairs (N/S or E/W) to move somewhere else. Please pay attention to these instructions.

Note: During tournaments, the director sends broadcast messages denoted by the ">>>." The director is not able to read chat messages sent by individual players at a table. To talk to the director during the tournament, use the ZoneMessage.

End of Tournament

You will be notified when the tournament is over. There may be a delay in getting the results posted if the director has to attend to any adjusted scores or other rulings.

Results

Available two different ways:

  • Final score and standing can be reached by clicking Tournaments on the Table of Contents, Tournament Results on the top of the page, and then the tournament title you are interested in seeing the results for. You will find a list of all pairs getting Net Points, and your score and rank.
  • The scores for a tournament will be posted for a whole week. At the end of the week, the scores will be reset. To view the scores from the week's tournament, enter the appropriate daily tournament room, and select Score from the Room menu.
Good luck in the Bridge Club tournaments!
