Fix for Fatal Exception Error in Civilization II

Have you been running Civilization II on Windows 95/98 and received a "Fatal Exception Error?" There is a 16-bit driver for QuickTime that may be the cause. If you run into this problem, MicroProse has provided the following steps to fix the issue.

Part One
  1. Using Notepad, open the QTW.INI
  2. Change “Optimize=Driver” to “Optimize=BMP”
  3. Save and close the file
Part Two
  1. Right click on the QTW.INI file and choose Properties from the popup menu
  2. In the Attributes section, check the Read-only box
  3. Click OK to close the Properties dialog
If it was the QuickTime driver causing the problem, this should prevent the "Fatal Exception Error" from coming up again. If you are having other issues with the game, please refer to the Technical Support section in your game manual.
