How can Flight Simulator be more fun than it already is?
Believe it or not, Flight Simulator 2000 is even more fun when you're flying in a sky filled with other aircraft piloted by other enthusiastic simulator pilots like you. Flight Simulator 2000 includes lots of new and improved features that can transform your multiplayer experience flying on the Zone. To learn more about any of these features, see the Simulator Help section of Flight Simulator 2000 in the in-game Help.
Go to Airport
On the World menu, click Go to Airport to quickly position you at any one of the more than 20,000 public-use airports in the Flight Simulator 2000 world. In multiplayer flight, this is the easiest way to get to an area where the other pilots are. Views and Windows You can use the features on the Views menu to see the things you'd see from the cockpit of a real airplane--and more. Different views serve different purposes. Experiment with them to find your favorites. (Track view, for instance, locks your view onto another aircraft, like padlock view in combat simulations--it's an easy way to keep another aircraft in your sights.) Use your joystick's hat switch (or use key commands) to turn your head within a view. You can also create additional windows to display more than one view at once (useful for formation flying!). For a list of view-related key commands, see the back cover of the Pilot's Handbook or the Key Commands tab of the Kneeboard. The GPS The moving map GPS unit is available in every aircraft in Flight Simulator 2000, and is a great way to keep track of where you are, where you were, and where you're going. These are important things to know when you're flying with other pilots! To display the GPS, just click the Display/Hide GPS icon on an aircraft's instrument panel. Weather What's flying without a little weather? Flight Simulator 2000 enables you to easily fill the sky with exactly the weather you want: clouds, wind, rain, snow, lightning, and thunderstorms. Keep in mind, though, that in a multiplayer session pilots will have to set their own weather conditions. If you all want to fly in the same sky, then set your weather to the same conditions! Flight Planner The Flight Planner lets you create or load a VFR or IFR flight plan. You can define your own route or select auto-routing via direct GPS, low altitude airways, high altitude airways, or VOR to VOR. Once created, your flight plan will be loaded into the GPS. Create the same flight plan as other pilots to make it easy to fly together from one airport to another. You can even e-mail the flight plan file to your friends for massive formation cross-country flights! Key Commands See the Key Commands tab of the Flight Simulator 2000 kneeboard (press F10) for a complete list of key commands. Here are the commands specific to multiplayer flight:
