General Game Tips

There's no way around it: Forsaken is a fast game, and anyone who hesitates is a goner. Handling the Pioncycle in darkened mazes is hard enough, but if you're up against a player who can out-turn, out-shoot, and plain old out-think you, odds are you're in for a tough ride.

These tips are here to help you learn how to better survive in this deadly game. You're going to have to learn how to move, select weapons, spot your enemies, dogfight, dodge, hunt for treasures -- all while trying to hold on to what you have.

Let's jump into it. Here's a short list of the dos and don'ts of Forsaken :

  • Never stop moving.
  • Don't fly in a straight line -- if you do, you're giving someone a nice, steady target (and the Forsaken pros out there love nice, steady targets). Use combinations of pitching, rolling, and sliding to keep the enemy guessing.
  • Don't charge blindly into a fight (unless the situation dictates this is the best thing to do). Pick your fights carefully. You won't always be able to initiate a fight, of course, so choose when to run and when to duke it out. There's no shame in a tactical retreat.
  • Choose your weapons to fit the situation. You'll learn which ones are your favorites, but you can't use one weapon for every fight.
  • Configure your controllers so that maneuvers, weapon selection, and everything else is within easy reach of your fingers. You want to fight other players, not the controls.
  • Collect anything and everything you can find, and do it as quickly as possible. Having more weapons than your enemy has obvious advantages.
  • If you are about to buy the farm, try to drop your weapons in a spread-out pattern; otherwise all of your goodies will be dropped, upon your death, in a nice bundle for your executioner to pick up. Now let's take a look at the Forsaken universe. The information found here could save your life (or at least prolong it).

    VEHICLES
In multiplayer mode, all Pioncycles are equal. Don't blame the bike if you crash and burn; blame your enemy.

    Game Window

Only in single-player mode do the bikes differ.

Like all well-designed games, Forsaken has looked after play balance, giving you a selection of vehicles that have their strengths and weaknesses. If you want to go faster, you'll be sacrificing shield and/or hull strength. If you want stronger shields and hull, your bike won't be as nimble. Only your skills and personal preference can determine which bike will be best suited to your needs.

    WEAPONS
Learning which weapon to use at which time is just as important as maneuvering. You will figure out when to use a particular weapon through experience, but here are some tips:

    GUNS
Pulsar    You'll always have this weapon after you've regenerated from a humiliating defeat. It's a good, all-around weapon, because it uses the least amount of ammo and it has a decent amount of punch.
    Trojax

    Trojax

It's such a beautiful sight to let this one fly against your enemies. Hold down the fire button to get a full charge, and let go. This weapon does so much damage it's frightening. The down side is that it's slow to travel, so it's easy to dodge, and it's an ammo hog -- it draws power (ammo) as long as you continue to hold down the fire button. You can fire short bursts, but it takes some getting used to when things are moving fast.
Suss Gun    It's a shotgun. Like shotguns, the Suss Gun is a short-range weapon and is of little use if you're aiming at a distant enemy. Get up close, though, and those glowing pellets will inflict a lot of pain. The Suss Gun uses its own ammo, which can be beneficial if you find yourself running low on ammo for your other weapons.
Transpulse    The Transpulse is beautiful to see and hear. It caroms off walls, making it an excellent choice for taking out enemies that are stuck in confined spaces. It is slow, however, so it's not the best for long-range shots. Practice putting deflected shots on-target so you can give your enemies an unpleasant tap on the shoulder.
Pyrolite    Like the Suss Gun, the Pyrolite is more of a short-range weapon. It'll fill a room or hallway with snaking blobs of deadly flame. The Pyrolite also uses separate ammo, and it runs through it quickly. A bonus is that it bounces off walls, making it a good ambush weapon.
Laser    This is a fast weapon. Down a long hallway, no other weapon in your inventory will reach its target as quickly as the laser. But you only get one shot at a time. Sometimes a stream of pulsar blasts can catch your target if they're unlucky enough to maneuver into them. The laser is a one-shot deal. If you don't hit your target with one blast, you have to aim and fire again.
    MISSILES
Mug    These are the most plentiful of the missiles you'll find; hence, they are the least desirable. They make a good backup weapon when you don't have any other missiles. They are slow and unguided, so you have to pick your targets carefully.
Solaris    The Solaris will be the workhorse of your missile complement. They are smart weapons: fire from a tunnel into a room containing an enemy you can't see (but you know is there) and the Solaris will find them, track them, and hurt them. A major benefit of having Solaris missiles on board is that by selecting them, you turn on a target tracking box that will mark an enemy that is in your line of sight but may be hidden in darkness.
Scatter    Find and pick up a Scatter as quickly as you can. Hitting your enemy with one of these will knock all of their weapons and other goodies from their grasp, so you can then swoop in and partake. The Scatter has the best tracking of any of the missiles.
Gravgon    You can hold your opponent in place with the lovely blue gravity field that appears upon impact of the Gravgon. They can still fire at you, so be wary, but take advantage and blast them to bits. Don't forget to pick up all the goodies they leave behind when they go. If you are caught in a Gravgon field, don't despair. Use a combination of moves to wrest yourself free. This takes some practice. A Nitro blast can help. You can also take advantage of Forsaken 's powerful key-configuring feature by assigning a combination of moves (forward, up, slide, etc.) to a single key on your keyboard. This is a handy way of making a break for it. Experiment, you'll get it.
MFRL    The Multiple Fire Rocket Launcher packs a maximum of 100 missiles that are basically like small Mugs. They are fast and do considerable damage. If you hold down the trigger, you can empty the magazine in no time. Use the MFRL to overwhelm your enemy with a swarm of deadly missiles. Watch out, though, because if you use them at close range, you risk getting hit by the shockwave.
Titan    Who needs speed when you have power? Sure your enemy can evade the Titan, but if they're still in the same room when it explodes, they're doomed. The first explosion is big enough, but the Titan releases a set of smaller missiles that lock onto any target they can find. The shockwave from these secondary explosions is tremendous. Keep in mind that if you're in the room, the secondary missiles will lock onto you too, so the best tactic is to launch and run for cover, or launch from a tunnel into a room. Don't waste time aiming at the enemy; just fire at the wall next to them -- they'll get the point. If you are on the receiving end of a Titan, run for your life.
    MINES
Purge Mines    Deploy these if you're being pursued, turn on the mine/missile camera (F5), and watch the show. If you deploy them in a tight group, the combined damage is a beautiful thing -- unless you're on the receiving end. The problem with all mines is remembering where you laid them. In a fast-moving combat environment, you usually remember only after you run into one.
Pine Mines    These are the smart missiles in your arsenal of mines. Once deployed, they will fire missiles at everyone but you. Ambush your enemy by hiding Pine Mines in a room so that when the bad guy enters, they won't see the attack coming. You can watch from the safety of cover by hitting F5, or join in just as your adversary is in the thick of the ambush.
    Quantum Mines

    Quantum Mines

Find ways to be tricky with these powerful mines. With the adrenaline pumping, your opponents just might mistake the purple glow of these weapons for shield power-ups, so put them where the power-ups hang out. The bluish glow emanating from Quantum Mines can be a giveaway (you'll learn to look for their spine-chilling calling card as you rip through tunnels), so be crafty and try deploying them in blue-lit areas of rooms. Suffice it to say, you do not want to be caught in the enormous shockwave Quantum Mines put out.
