It has arrived. Half-Life, the debut first-person shooter from Valve Software and published by Sierra, is on store shelves this November -- and the Internet Gaming Zone is throwing open the doors to Black Mesa. New Half-Life game rooms are live right now, and the deathmatch scene is already heating up.

You play Gordon Freeman, a mild-mannered theoretical physicist at the Black Mesa Research Facility, armed with little more than an orange HEV hazard suit and a trusty crowbar. When a routine experiment goes catastrophically wrong, a resonance cascade tears open a portal to the alien borderworld of Xen. Suddenly the labs are crawling with headcrabs, houndeyes, vortigaunts and alien grunts, and the government sends in the HECU Marines -- not to rescue you, but to silence every last witness. Your job is simple: survive, fight your way out, and stop the invasion at its source, the Nihilanth.

But the real party is online. Head into the Zone's Half-Life rooms and jump straight into fast, frantic multiplayer deathmatch and team play. The map roster is loaded with instant classics:

• crossfire -- watch your step, this one hides a callable tactical nuke
• boot_camp, bounce and frenzy -- tight arenas built for pure fragging
• stalkyard, gasworks, datacore and snark_pit -- run-and-gun favorites
• lambda_bunker, subtransit, undertow, rapidcore and doublecross

And the arsenal? It does not disappoint. Beyond the crowbar you have the Glock 9mm, the .357 Magnum, the MP5 with grenades, the SPAS-12 shotgun, a laser-guided RPG, the crossbow for sniping, the Gauss (Tau) cannon, and the mighty Gluon gun. For the truly devious there are Snarks -- live ammo that hunts your enemies -- plus tripmines, satchel charges, hand grenades, and the Hornet gun.
