Anyone can pick up a crowbar and go swinging. Winning a deathmatch on the Zone is a different animal. The players who top the scoreboard on crossfire, stalkyard, and boot_camp are not the ones with the fastest trigger finger -- they are the ones who are efficient. Every pickup, every fight, every jump has a purpose. Here is how the pros do it.
Own the map. A deathmatch level is a clock, and the items are its ticking hands. The MP5, the RPG, the Gauss cannon, and the health and HEV chargers all respawn on a timer. Learn those spots and learn the rhythm. Do not wander -- run a loop that keeps you rolling through the best weapon and armor spawns so you are always topped off while your opponents are scrounging. Deny them the goods and you win the fight before it starts. On crossfire, remember the tactical nuke can be called down -- clear the area, or be somewhere else when it lands.
Suit up before you fight. Health and HEV are not the same thing, and you want both. A full 100/100 lets you trade blows and walk away. Jumping into a firefight at low armor is how you become someone else's frag. Hit the chargers on your loop, then go hunting.
Move like you mean it. A stationary target is a dead target. Strafe constantly, circle your opponent, and never run in a straight line into an open sightline. Strafe-jumping carries your speed and makes you a nightmare to lead. Master the movement and half your survival is handled.
Pick fights you can win. Efficiency means not taking every duel. If your foe has the RPG and full armor and you have a Glock and 40 health, that is not a fight -- it is a donation. Break line of sight, grab a better gun, and come back on your terms.
- Use verticality -- high ground gives you sightlines, escape routes, and easy grenade drops.
- Ambush at chokepoints. A tripmine or satchel charge on a busy corridor pays for itself.
- Match the right tool to the range -- shotgun up close, crossbow across the map.
- Snarks and hand grenades flush campers out of corners.
Make sure you are patched to the same version as the room, or the server will turn you away at the door. Now get out there and frag smart.
