You can hack your way through the monsters, into the caves, and through the canyons, but there are a few things you'll want to keep in mind as you're going through the levels.
Be sure to look at our Help section for more information on Hexplore's weapons, objects, characters, etc.
General Tips:
- If you're going into a massive number of monsters and you aren't strong enough to take them all, leave one guy behind. That way, if your other men die, you are still in the game.
- When a character turns into a phantom, don't be too hasty to send him back to the Resurrection point; use him to do some exploration. See how many monsters are up ahead. Go into rooms you haven't visited yet and scope them out. Check into what dangers lie ahead so you'll be better prepared to face them.
- When you see an item, always take it. You'll probably need it soon.
- Make your range people (the Archer and the Magician) stand their ground using the small shield in the lower right corner of the character's face. That way they don't close in and get killed.
- Don't use your life vial potions on the first level; use the fountain across from the first town to renew your health.
- If you get lost easily, make a quick paper map to keep up with the lay of the land. Graph paper may be useful for this. It's sometimes confusing to come into a map from one point and leave it from another and not know where you're going in relation to where you've been.
- Use the Tom Thumb flag markers when you use an exit point from a map; that way you know you've already been to that point. You might even want to use two markers together to see where maps fit together.
- When you're done with a cave, mark the entrance with a Tom Thumb flag as well, so you can see you've already been in there. The other people in your party will also appreciate the clue, so that they don't waste their time.
- It may be useful to save from time to time so you can restart the level with the items you've discovered and kept in your inventory. Save does not save your character's place on the map; it just saves the inventory and statistics.
