Here is a list of the different types of games you'll play in a typical round of Outburst.

Basic Burst
|
|
You are given a topic, and you must come up with 10 words related to that topic: not just any 10 words -- the 10 that the game came up with!

|
Sloppy Seconds
|
|
Three of the correct answers are revealed. Then you have 30 seconds to match the remaining seven answers. You score two points for each correct answer.
|
|
Challenge Clock
|
|
The object is to get the most answers in the shortest time. Whoever triumphs gets all of the points for this round. The loser gets no points.

|
Reverse Burst
|
|
The game gives you the answers and you come up with the word they have in common. The longer you take, the fewer points you score. No penalty for an incorrect guess.

|
Mondo Burst
|
|
You are given a topic, such as the Periodic Table of Elements, and you have 60 seconds to come up with as many answers as you can. You have unlimited answers and each correct one counts as one point. This is the round to really score big points and possibly come from behind for a rousing victory!

Notes for Getting Ahead:
- Remember that you only have to type the first three letters of any word. The software will adjust for some typos and misspellings. Don't waste time typing more than three letters: you'll just end up backspacing to delete that leftover letter.
- There are no penalties for incorrect answers. Just go crazy! Type as many possibilities as cross your mind. Of course, you'll get more points if you happen to be answering the questions correctly!
- Relax and have fun. If you miss one answer or don't get all of the answers filled in, remember it's just a game! Relax, sit back, and think of the people at the other end of the game who missed one on the last round.
- Get a team together and make it a party game! It's always helpful if you have half-crazed people sitting behind you yelling out answers to the questions. It also tests your ability to stay cool under pressure!
- Don't try to look anything up. There's not enough time for that. Remember, if you don't know all 27 National Basketball teams like your opponents do, they may not know 30 different names for coffee! It's all fair when the buzzer sounds.
- Don't eat pizza near your keyboard. It gums up the keys, and tends to make rancid smells later. Oh, wait; that's not game related. Never mind. Scratch that last hint.
