The ravages of WWII extended to some of the most remote portions of the world. Desperate battles fought in locations far removed from the primary theaters of war affected the balance of power and the outcome of the war in many ways. With this in mind, it's clear why having access to terrain and scenery from the entire world enhance your experience.
Combat Flight Simulator 2 (CFS 2) is capable of using the scenery from Flight Simulator 2000 to add that extra global dimension to your gaming experience. Whether you simply want to explore more of the historical world in your favorite WWII aircraft, recreate historical battles in remote locations, explore the possibilities of alternate histories and battles, or develop your own battles in modern-day locations, you can use scenery from Flight Simulator 2000 to make it possible.
Flight Simulator 2000 was not designed to consider the effects of bombs and aircraft on buildings and terrain, so these objects cannot be damaged or destroyed. You can, however, use the CFS 2 Mission Builder to instead create missions with CFS 2 objects on the Flight Simulator 2000 scenery. For example, you could add a column of CFS 2 trucks traveling along a Flight Simulator 2000 road.
To import Flight Simulator 2000 scenery you must have retail copies of both products installed on your system.
Before making any changes to any files, make backup copies of the scenery.cfg file in the CFS 2 folder on your hard drive. For instructions on backing up your files, click here.
To use Flight Simulator 2000 scenery in CFS 2 you must copy the contents of the scenery.cfg file located in the Flight Simulator 2000 folder and add it to the contents of the CFS 2 scenery.cfg file. Then, both the [Area.], and Layer values must be reset so they are all sequential. Finally, the path located in the Local= field must be erased and the path to the Area's scenery files must be entered in full as the Remote= value. This process is covered in much more detail here.
Importing Flight Simulator 2000 scenery into CFS 2 alters the existing terrain in CFS 2, and may affect the geography of some missions. If you wish to use the original terrain from CFS 2 instead of the terrain from Flight Simulator 2000, you must disable the corresponding area from the Scenery Library in the CFS 2 settings. For example, Hawaii or Western Pacific scenery would need to be disabled, so that the mission terrain will appear as it did originally. See the Combat Flight Simulator 2 Pilot's Manual or the Readme file for instructions.
