The war for the Koprulu sector is far from over. Blizzard's StarCraft: Brood War picks up the moment the original left off, and it has landed in the Zone's game rooms with a vengeance. If you drilled the Terran, Zerg and Protoss campaigns to the bone, sharpen your build orders - the galaxy just got meaner.
Brood War adds seven new units across the three races, each one built to break the standard rush. Here is your new arsenal:
- Medic (Terran) - a front-line healer that keeps your Marines standing, blinds foes with Optical Flare, and uses Restoration to cure parasite and plague.
- Valkyrie (Terran) - a missile frigate that rakes clustered enemy aircraft with a spread of explosive rockets.
- Lurker (Zerg) - morphed from the Hydralisk, it burrows underground and skewers anything that crosses its spines. Cloaked death for the careless.
- Corsair (Protoss) - a fast air-superiority fighter whose Disruption Web silences enemy ground defenses cold.
- Devourer (Zerg) - morphed from the Mutalisk, its Acid Spores rot enemy armor and cripple whole air fleets.
- Dark Templar (Protoss) - the permanently cloaked warriors of Zeratul's order are now yours to build, and two of them merge into a Dark Archon.
The story drives just as hard. Three new campaigns carry the saga forward: the Protoss regroup on the dark world of Shakuras, the United Earth Directorate storms in to seize the sector, and Sarah Kerrigan - the Queen of Blades - plays every faction against the next. Jim Raynor, Arcturus Mengsk and Zeratul all return, still paying for the sacrifice Tassadar made against the Overmind. New tilesets and dozens of fresh maps round out the package.
Why should a Zoner grab it? Because every ranked room is already switching over. Brood War is the tournament standard now, and the classics you love - Lost Temple, The Hunters, Big Game Hunters, Blood Bath and Showdown - all play right here. Load up the expansion, jump into a Zone StarCraft room, and prove the sector belongs to you.
