ZoneLAN - IPX

Getting Started
GNRK Image

If you'd like to play a game you don't see on listed the Zone, have no fear. Hook up with your friends through ZoneLAN (Local Access Network). ZoneLAN-IPX offers free multiplayer matchmaking for many popular IPX-compatible games - typically older games that don't support DirectPlay. If you'd like to play a game that supports DirectPlay, go to ZoneLAN - DirectPlay.

What You'll Need
  • A FREE Zone Name and password (Sign up now!)
  • Game software for the game you'd like to play
  • Windows 95/98, or NT 4.0 or later with System Pack 3
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.02 or later, or Netscape Navigator version 4.0 or later
How to Play
  1. From the ZoneLAN - IPX Game Rooms page, enter one of the rooms by clicking its name. If you wish to join a game that hasn't started yet, move your pointer over to the game's matchmaking square, then click the Join button to enter. Wait for the host to launch the game.
  2. To host a game, move your pointer over an unoccupied matchmaking square and click the Host icon.
  3. In the dialog box that appears, be sure to replace "My Game" in the Game name box with the name of the game you're hosting (unless all the people who might join already know this).
  4. Choose the maximum number of players.
  5. If you like, you can click the Private game check box and assign the game a password. Make sure you give the password to everyone you want to play.
  6. Click OK . You'll be presented with a DOS command-line prompt from which you can run your game's setup features. See your game's documentation for details.
